Overview

The Université de Saint-Boniface is the only French-language university in the province of Manitoba, Canada and is the first postsecondary educational institution to be established in Western Canada. Today, it offers first-class general and specialized university degree programs as well as technical and professional training that enhances employability in the current job market.

The general conditions of admission differ according to your origin. Although it is necessary to meet these minimum requirements to qualify, it is not a guarantee of admission. You must also meet the admission requirements of the program of your choice. To find out the admission requirements for each of our programs, please consult the directory

Knowledge of English

Some programs (Health Care Aide Certificate, Diploma in Early Childhood Education, Diploma in Practical Nursing, Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Bachelor of Social Work) have admission requirements related to knowledge of the English language. In such cases, the Université de Saint-Boniface may ask you for the results of a standardized test in English to determine if you are eligible for the program of your choice. Consult the Standardized English Tests page to determine if you are exempt from this requirement and for the list of tests accepted by USB as well as the minimum thresholds required for each of the programs in question.

Please note that the university only accepts the original document (not older than 2 years) attesting to the results of a standardized test in English. Photocopies and scanned documents are not accepted.

Manitoba students

Manitoba applicants must have graduated from high school with a minimum of 5 credits at the Grade 12 S, G, or U level

Students from other Canadian provinces

All students must meet the general admission requirements and the specific requirements of the program of their choice. USB will accept as Manitoba Grade 12 equivalency:

General admission conditions for students with the International Baccalaureate

Three courses at higher level and three courses at standard level with a final mark of 4 in each subject and an overall mark of at least 24. Transfer credit may be awarded for certain higher or standard level subjects whose final mark is 4 or more.

Advanced Placement (AP)

Although the Advanced Placement program does not lead to a degree, transfer credit may be granted for certain subjects in which the final grade obtained is 4 or more. In order for USB to assess the equivalency of the AP courses you have completed, be sure to submit an official College Board transcript to the Registrar's Office by September. USB will notify you via email of credit transfers for which you are eligible. You can choose to accept or decline the credit transfer offer. The admissions process varies depending on the cycle of studies to which you wish to submit an application for admission. For admission to graduate studies, see the Master of Education and Master of Arts in Canadian Studies programs. For any other program, see the procedure below.

Before you start filling out your application for admission, please check the admission requirements. Consult the directory for details on the programs offered, including admission criteria, registration, requirements, obligations and regulations attached to them.

3. Determine your status

You will have to choose your status when you complete your online admission application.

  • Regular student:

    A regular student is considered to be one who belongs to one of the following three groups:

    • is admitted in accordance with the general and specific requirements;
    • is re-enrolled after an absence of five years or less for a university program and one year or less for an ETP program;
    • comes from another university and is eligible because of the possibility of transferring credits to the Université de Saint-Boniface in order to obtain a first degree.
  • Mature student:

    A mature student is considered to be any person who meets all of the following criteria:

    • has not attended or has not completed high school;
    • has not completed post-secondary education at a recognized university or college;
    • is 21 years of age or older
      • (before September 30 for the regular year, before January 31 for admission in January and before May 1 for admission between sessions);
    • has Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status;
    • registers with a view to being subsequently accepted into a program as a regular student, after 24 credits; and
    • does not meet all general admission requirements.

    This student must submit:

    • an application for admission;
    • a birth certificate;
    • a marriage certificate (married women who have changed their name).
  • Visiting student:

    A visiting student is considered to be any person admitted to one or more courses for credit at another institution.

    These individuals must comply with all obligations and regulations regarding examinations and voluntary withdrawals. On the other hand, they pay the same tuition fees as a regular student. By choosing this status, it is only possible to take undergraduate courses depending on the availability of the courses in question.

    For certain programs, priority is given to students from the Université de Saint-Boniface.

  • Free Auditor:

    A free auditor is considered to be anyone admitted to one or more courses for which they do not expect to receive credit.(For these people, the registration fees are reduced by half.) The professor's written agreement is required for any registration in a course under the “auditor” classification. By choosing this status, it is only possible to take undergraduate courses depending on the availability of the courses in question. For certain programs, priority is given to students from the Université de Saint-Boniface.

  • Special student:

    A special student is considered to be any person who obtains the dean's permission to enroll in one or more courses and who meets one or more of the following criteria:

    • possess a diploma undergraduate in another faculty;
    • choose one or more courses whose credits cannot be validly considered for obtaining a degree, diploma or certificate.

    These individuals must comply with all obligations and regulations regarding examinations and voluntary withdrawals. On the other hand, they pay the same tuition fees as a regular student.

  • Senior Student:

    Anyone 65 years of age or older can register free of charge. She will have to submit a birth certificate with her application for admission.

5. Submit your documentation

Please read the deadlines for submitting the documentation that must accompany your application for admission.

  • It remains your responsibility to ensure that the university receives all documentation by the deadline. If they do not receive the relevant documentation for your file (including the non-refundable admission fees) before the deadline, they will unfortunately not be able to evaluate your file and follow up on your request for the requested session.
  • If you studied at another university or other post-secondary institution, you will need to submit an official transcript for all studies completed when you submit your application for admission. If you are in the process of studying, you will have to submit your transcript to us as soon as your final grades are available. Students suspended from another post-secondary institution are not eligible for admission to Université de Saint-Boniface.

After submitting your application for admission online, send the required documents as well as the admission fees (non-refundable) to the Registrar's Office at the address below before the deadlines. Deadlines for submitting your documentation vary by program.

The documents you provide (for example, transcripts, certificates of achievement, diplomas and birth certificates) become the property of Université de Saint-Boniface and will not be returned to you. Documents from a North American educational institution must be original. We recommend that documents (with the exception of French or English standardized test results, which must be originals) from an institution outside of North America be certified copies of the originals if you cannot receive other original documents, as these will not be returned to you. These documents must be mailed or dropped off in person. Scanned and emailed documents will not be accepted.

If you do not register at the Université de Saint-Boniface, your admission file, including any documentation provided, will be destroyed after two years.

If you plan to apply for transfer credits once you arrive at Université de Saint-Boniface, you will have to provide us with original versions of official transcripts and course syllabi. These documents must be sent directly by the institution responsible, electronically to the address transfertdecredits@ustboniface.ca or by mail in a sealed envelope. Consult the directory to find out more about transfer credits.

If you plan to graduate from a Manitoba high school during the current year and you submitted your application for admission before June 15, the Université de Saint-Boniface will contact your school to obtain your transcript (interim and final, as applicable). If you submit your application for admission after June 15, you will have to send us your final transcript by mail or deliver it in person.
